Our salsa and sauces begin with a blend of the freshest ingredients. There are NO artificial colors, additives, or chemical preservatives
used in our recipes. You are not only getting great taste, but also healthy ingredients, such as raw garlic, and onion that promote
better health. Even the salt we use is a natural salt mined from a dry sea bed, without being heated, bleached, or kiln dried. This
sea salt acts as a natural preservative and also has 50+ trace minerals which are necessary nutrients our bodies need.

In the world of salsa connoisseurs...
there are three
distinct types of salsa - cooked, raw/fresh, or blended.
Most jarred, canned, and bottled salsa and picante sauces sold in U.S.
grocery stores are forms of salsa cruda (pico de gallo), but to prolong their shelf life, they have been COOKED which kills the healthy
enzymes. Unlike fresh salsa cruda, these commercial jarred, canned, and bottled salsas typically have a semi-liquid texture more akin
to that of canned tomatoes, and often resemble chunky commercial spaghetti sauces. So-called "chunky salsa" appears to be the most
popular form of jarred salsa currently. More expensive brands tend to have more chunks of vegetables.
Many grocery stores in
the United States also sell "FRESH," refrigerated salsa. Fresh salsa is usually more expensive and has a shorter shelf life than canned
or jarred salsa. There are regionally produced fresh all-natural jarred salsa products as well with live enzymes that do not
use artificial
ingredients or chemicals to enhance shelf life.
BLENDED salsas have gained popularity due to their less watery
consistency and full flavor "chipability". Their widespread availability and long shelf life are credited with much of salsa's enormous
popularity in states outside of the southwest, especially in places where salsa is not a
traditional part of the cuisine.
In 1992,
Packaged Facts, a food marketing research group, found that the dollar amount of salsa sales had overtaken those of ketchup.
Honest
Dave's Salsa is classified as a blended salsa and needs to be refrigerated due to the delicate blend of cooked and raw ingredients.
